Does testosterone cause acne?

testosterone and acne Testosterone is the main male sex hormones, part of the androgen hormones. It exists both in males and females. Its levels are higher in men and are responsible for the male unique features: more muscle mass, lower voice more body hair etc. Testosterone, as the other androgen hormones caused the enlargement of the skin oil glands (Sebaceous gland). This is, in turn, cause the production of more skin oil, more clogging of the glands and acne.

The female ovaries also produce testosterone in small amounts. When the production of testosterone is higher than normal, there would be some noticeable changes in body hair, irregular menstrual periods voice changes and frequently more acne.
