Q&A

Does eating peanuts cause acne?

Dr. Yoram Harth, MD
By Dr. Yoram Harth, md | 2018-12-17

The short answer: it's possible. Peanuts contain an androgen, which can make acne worse by increasing sebum production. If you struggle with acne breakouts, it's best to be on the safe side and avoid peanuts and peanut products to see if it has an effect on your skin. Good news, there are tons of awesome, acne-friendly alternatives to peanuts such as almonds, cashews, and macadamia nuts, which have not been shown to affect androgen levels.
