Many of us agree that bacon is quite tasty. In fact, current stats show that the average American eats more than 18 pounds of bacon each year...yowzers!
Is bacon good for you? It’s questionable. Does eating bacon cause acne breakouts? Well, currently there’s no data showing a connection between eating bacon and increased rates or severity of acne. That being said, bacon—like most other processed animal foods—does contain high levels of sulfates, nitrates, and sodium, which can increase inflammation in the body. Since we know that inflammation can trigger or worsen acne, it’s possible that eating bacon regularly might not be doing your skin any favors.
When healing your acne, it’s a good idea to reduce or eliminate consumption of foods that could be triggering. Therefore, if you’re struggling with breakouts, reducing bacon might (at least in theory) be a good measure to help clear your skin. However, it is likely not the sole cause or solution. The first step in combating and preventing acne is to commit to an effective, topical, anti-acne skincare regimen.
